MODÉLISTE | Woven Labels Samples

Photobucket
I should have posted this up ages ago, but after posting it on instagram I forgot about it and I've only just remembered to blog about it here.
I've done lookbooks, photoshoots, and I've loaned my garments to stylists, but I didn't completely feel like a designer until I received my woven label samples. The main batch are still in production but these samples will do until the rest arrive.

I haven't blogged in what feels like forever. Oops. If you don't follow me on Twitter or Instagram then hopefully the images above explain what I've been up to all this time (*whispers* the Olympics).
I think it's time for me to make the most of this queue feature blogger's got.

BEHIND THE SCENES | Girls with Mateusz Sitek

Photographer Mateusz Sitek approached me several months ago about working on an editorial using my collection and we finally got to shoot together a couple of weeks ago. We've just found out that it's going to be published which is great, until the shots are published, I'll leave you with some behind the scenes pictures that I took...

WORK | The Girl...

Photobucket
I've been thinking about branding a lot lately. They say in order to be successful, you need to know who your customer is (amongst other things), and I've been thinking, who IS the Samuella Palmer girl? I've got it all figured out now, and as basic as it may sound, once you know who your customer is, it makes a lot of things much easier.

Woven Labels

Photobucket

Photobucket
{images via Google & Tumblr}

I've been viewing a lot of designer woven labels lately to see the standard and how I'd like to do my own. I'm over complicating things all because I can't commit to a design; all I need is my name/label name on it and to decide what type of fold i'd like:

too much choice

I have managed to whittle it down to two fold's, and I've decided on the font I want, but I'm still undecided as to whether I want a black or white label, my logo included on it etc... So all I've got to do is make a decision and shop around for some prices and when they're done I'll post them up.
*sidebar* I don't think I will be doing any more D.I.Y's related to garments that are in my upcoming collection until after I've completed and photographed the collection and released the lookbook because a) it spoils the surprise and b) I can't be sure of who reads this blog.

Lookbook Inspiration

I’m sure I’ve stated this before either on here or on Twitter but, I’m already looking for lookbook and campaign inspirations when I haven’t even finished sewing my collection yet. I need to get a move on!

I saw Gwyneth Paltrow’s Harper’s Bazaar cover and instantly loved the way the words were fitted around the body…
Photobucket
I like the idea of having my name where the masthead is and having the name and season of the collection on either side of the model. I probably won’t be doing this because, as you can see, it’s already been done but I’m going to work with the idea of placing my name and season in with the image one way or another. However, I really like this:

And it’s left me thinking about doing a foldout lookbook instead of a bog standard book. It’s not going to be cheap but if I do go with the idea, I’ll find a cheaper way of doing it.

{Editorialize} Test Shoot: Behind the Scenes

I was recently approached by photographer Lucy Eleanor Brown to do a test shoot using garments from my graduate collection. The shoot was yesterday at St Dunstan's Hill near Monument. It's such a random place as it's a location that belongs in the countryside yet it's in the middle of the City. We ended up shooting my entire collection which was great and she's an incredibly speedy photographer so we were finished by lunchtime.

The pictures are currently being edited, but here are some pictures I took from "behind the scenes":

I love a fishtail plait, and the model had the perfect length hair as well as thickness for it

The garden had the most beautiful Hydrangea's (I think that's what they're called). I couldn't really capture the beauty of them on my camera, but they were changing colour and looked so pretty

As soon as these pictures are ready I will post them up along with the ones from the other shoot I did.

{Editorialize} Sneak Peak

I had the chance to style a shoot for a friend of mine last week, and although we had a last minute rush, everything turned out well.

These are a few pictures I took on my digital camera which does the shoot absolutely no favours but I just couldn't help my self and had to post them:

We had a rare sunny(HOT) day in London, so the Make Up Artist (Kelly) and Model (Zainab) had to gather in the shade to do the make up.

As we were just off Oxford Street and it was lunch time, we had an audience.
