Blumarine Autumn/Winter 2012: Metallics

Photobucket
Blumarine tends to not get much of my attention when Milan Fashion Week comes around, however this time round (and many may disagree with me) I found myself drawn to the Blumarine collection because of the use of coloured metallic's and it's use in different textures.

They remind me of vintage Versace:

I wonder how coloured metallic's will catch on in the mainstream. I mean, it shouldn't work but to me it does and I would love to actually feel the garments (sweaters specifically) myself.

Britany Nola and Jonathan Leder take the best photographs together.

How Leder manages to pull off that vintage/retro feel is beyond me and is a secret I guess only photographers know, but I was convinced I was looking at a picture from the 80's until I discovered just how recent it was.

I'm not a fan of the layout of the editorial but I love the way the it's been styled. The models look nothing like the artists they're portraying, but they've got the poses down and the styling lets you know who they're meant to be before you see the name. I've never read Lovecat magazine, but a lot of their editorials have been finding their way on to the web lately and I'm tempted to pick up a copy.

(Am I the only one that wants the "Posh spice" and "Cher" outfits?)

Woven Labels

{images via Google & Tumblr}

I've been viewing a lot of designer woven labels lately to see the standard and how I'd like to do my own. I'm over complicating things all because I can't commit to a design; all I need is my name/label name on it and to decide what type of fold i'd like:

too much choice

I have managed to whittle it down to two fold's, and I've decided on the font I want, but I'm still undecided as to whether I want a black or white label, my logo included on it etc... So all I've got to do is make a decision and shop around for some prices and when they're done I'll post them up.
*sidebar* I don't think I will be doing any more D.I.Y's related to garments that are in my upcoming collection until after I've completed and photographed the collection and released the lookbook because a) it spoils the surprise and b) I can't be sure of who reads this blog.

MODÉLISTE | Varsity Jacket - A Work In Progress

Photobucket

Whenever I start working on a garment, I like to finish it as soon as possible, because if I leave long periods of time between starting and completion, the garment becomes a struggle to finish, and that's what has happened with the varsity jacket. I started working on it towards the end of last year, but had to put it aside and now I can't find the motivation I need to finish it. That said, it finishes off one of my looks so believe me, it will get done.

MODÉLISTE | The T-Shirt... Prototype

I'm sorry I haven't done any garment/DIY posts in a while. I was busy all through December, then spent half of January wallowing in self-pity and the other half just being plain lazy and as a result, not much sewing has taken place. That's why I've been posting far too many editorials, campaigns, video's etc... which I do feel guilty about because that's not what I wanted this blog to be about.

The whole purpose of this blog was to document my [cue cheesy word:] journey; to give an insight in to what it's like for a new, struggling designer, and log images that interest me.

I had this sample of a T-Shirt with my logo done for me back in December. I've done quite a few of these over the past couple of years because it's never been placed in the center (as you can see) and I've changed my logo countless times (If you go back in the archives of this blog and my old one, you'll see what I mean).

Seeing it made me go back to the drawing board and I've edited the font... again. I have a few of these t-shirts left which were going to go on the blog shop, however, if enough people follow (bloglovin/google/whatever), I might do a giveaway, but I'll do an official post if that time ever comes.

*Sidebar: I keep getting asked to post style pics. I hardly take pictures of myself and when I do I scrutinize every part of it but if I ever find someone with the patience to take my picture you might just see some style photos.

i-D Magazine Pre-Spring 2012

I haven't bought a copy of i-D Magazine in ages but the images coming out of the pre-spring 2012 issue look so good I'm going to have to buy a copy.

I love a bit of property-porn and I instantly recognized the house used in Rita Ora's shoot as the same one used in Lana Del Rey's photoshoot. All this time I thought it was somewhere in Miami or California, who would have thought that little bungalow was in Watford?

The video did the trick because I went straight to French Vogue's new website (thank God for google translate).

sidebar: I've wanted a Vogue t-shirt since I first clapped eyes on them over a year ago, so if there's anyone that reads this blog that works for Vogue (fat chance) and/or can make this happen, hit me up, please and thanks.

Lookbook Inspiration

I’m sure I’ve stated this before either on here or on Twitter but, I’m already looking for lookbook and campaign inspirations when I haven’t even finished sewing my collection yet. I need to get a move on!

I saw Gwyneth Paltrow’s Harper’s Bazaar cover and instantly loved the way the words were fitted around the body…
Photobucket
I like the idea of having my name where the masthead is and having the name and season of the collection on either side of the model. I probably won’t be doing this because, as you can see, it’s already been done but I’m going to work with the idea of placing my name and season in with the image one way or another. However, I really like this:
Photobucket
And it’s left me thinking about doing a foldout lookbook instead of a bog standard book. It’s not going to be cheap but if I do go with the idea, I’ll find a cheaper way of doing it.
